Just Starting Out?

We are constantly having new ladies join our Pink Iron community... once you have been through the Pink Iron 101 class course, it is time to graduate to our regular group training classes. And these can be, well, sort of intimidating for a newbie. You can be in class with some pretty bad@** chicks doing things you've never even seen before like overhead squats, kipping pull-ups (huh?), or double unders.

You may watch them and say "wow, I'll never be that fast, or that strong, or be able to jump that high". Don't let those self-doubting thoughts fill your head... you found us because you are looking for something that will improve your health, confidence, and YOUR LIFE! Every single girl in Pink Iron had to start somewhere. If you talk to the same girls you are admiring, they will tell you that when they first started, they probably couldn't even do an air squat properly! It takes hard work and dedication to be able to reach those goals that each of our members set for themselves. These things don't happen overnight... but they do happen. As you settle in here, you find yourself getting stronger, faster, more coordinated. The added bonus of that is your pants will probably start fitting looser and you will see definition in your arms and abs.

It all just takes a little patience and a lot of confidence in yourself and your ability. You don't have to be the best, you just have to give it YOUR best, day in and day out. You're an awesome chick, just show up at Pink Iron and let us prove it to you.

Happy Birthday Barbell!

If you have ever been to Pink Iron then you have most likely met our little mascot, Barbell. She is the little white dog that hangs out on the couches and gives everyone a friendly bark "hLinkello" when they walk in the door. We have appointed her as our official welcoming committee and she takes her job very seriously.

Barbell has grown up at Pink Iron.. it truly is her home. We got Barbell the first week that we were open on April 2009.. she was only 8 weeks old. In fact, we have the video of the first time she was in her new home here: Watch Video

Barbell is very special to us all here at Pink Iron, in fact we have a few members who joined Pink Iron just because they wanted to see that cute little dog every day. She is always here to brighten all of our days and we never get tired of taking pictures of her.

So that makes tomorrow a very special day for us here. Tomorrow, February 7th, is Barbell's 3rd Birthday! We will be at the gym celebrating all day long. In fact, we will have a very special "Happy Birthday Barbell" workout of the day. We hope that all of you can join us in making Barbell's 3rd birthday a very special one and doing a great workout in her honor!

Feel free to bring Barbell treats as well... she LOVES treats! So much in fact that she gets a little "grumpy" if you try to mess with her treats. Watch the video below... it'll brighten up your Monday :)

Have a great start to your week and see you here tomorrow for the Birthday Celebration!

First Class and Feeling Sore? Listen Up!

Some of our Brand New Clients Working Hard!

Welcome to February! January was a busy month for us here at Pink Iron and that means that many of you are NEW members! We are so grateful to have all of you ladies here and to be given the opportunity to help you reach your peak fitness level and achieve the goals you have set for yourself for 2012.

For many of you, our training program is the first thing you have done like this, EVER.... So for that reason, today, I would like to address starting out and soreness. The truth is that yes, anything worth doing will not be a breeze. The first time you do a workout at Pink Iron, you will most likely feel soreness in muscles that you may not have even realized you had! That is a good thing, BUT we want to make sure that you are not so sore that you can't walk down stairs or pick up your children.

Our suggestion for every new member is to take it easy for the first week or two. Don't feel like you have to compete to beat the best time on the board. As a new member, our big goal for you initially is to just get you moving and familiarize you with the movements that we do. You will hear your coaches talk about "scaling" the workout... when you hear this, listen up closely because they are talking to you! If you need to do less repetitions or less rounds or modify some of the movements... THAT IS OK!! Fitness is not a sprint, it is a marathon... it is a life commitment. You have time to become better and better... for the first few weeks, let's just focus more on form and getting your body adapted to the intensity at which you will be eventually pushing.

We take the time in every class to warm you up properly and cool you down. We ask that you get to class on time and the main reason is because we care about your safety. Warming up properly will aid in keeping you injury free and cooling down will help relieve some of the tightness and soreness that you experience post workout. One of our favorite tools to use is the foam roller, we encourage all of our members to arrive 10-15 minutes before class AND stay after class and "roll out" ... search for trigger points or tender areas and roll these areas to decrease density and over activity. You will be amazed at how this simple tool will help you to recover from soreness more quickly. If all of this sounds like a foreign language to you right now, then don't fear, we will teach you how to do this is class!

Just make sure that you start out slowly and go at your own pace. Always keep your coaches updated on how you are feeling and we are here to help you from the beginning! Love you ladies! xoxo- Coach Holly

New Year, New Cool Stuff at Pink Iron

Wow, so it's been a WHILE since we have posted on this blog but since we are in the process of getting our new and improved blog up and running, I figured I would go ahead and utilize this blog for now.

We have some awesome stuff going down over in our pink palace so if you haven't heard, then pull up a chair and get cozy...

We have new classes, new class times, and more days classes are available and that all started this week with a bang!

The biggest hit so far is our "Lean & Mean" cardio shred class... if you haven't gotten a chance to try it out yet well then.... What Are You Waiting For? It is an hour of intervals and we also throw in some fun little twists and turns to keep you on your toes. If you see someone leaving Pink Iron drenched in sweat with a smile on their face, just ask them how Lean & Mean was...

Coach Andrea and Lean & Mean class gettin' their sweat on...

We are also implementing YOGA into our program! If you're coming to classes at Pink Iron then all day long you hear all of your coaches talk about the importance of stretching and "mobility". "I stretch", you say.. after the 3 minutes that you spend rolling around on the foam roller (until it starts to hurt, then you put it away and go sit on the couch and pet Barbell...) Right, right, we know you "stretch"... Well, come stretch MORE and correctly in our new Yoga class. You will be amazed at how much better you feel after just a few classes. Then VOILA all of the sudden your squats will get deeper, your overhead movements much easier, and your body much less prone to injury. Yoga rounds out our programming so check it out and get your flow on!

Oh.... AND we are now open on SUNDAYS!!! Yeehaw, yippee, woohoo!! Check out all the details of the new classes on our website at www.pinkiron.com under the "classes" section.

In the meantime... hope you get in today and catch a workout with us... we promise it is an exceptionally fun one today... Just check out our 8am superstars getting busy

How to deal with the Halloween Aftermath!

You take the kids out for a fun night of Trick or Treat. You start out with just one innocent little fun size candy bar, then another... then another. "Oh well", you think, "I've already messed up so may as well fill up my own jack o latern!" By the night's end, you have an awful stomach ache with a heaping load of guilt!

Don't let the guilt drag you down. Wake up the next day with a fresh start, it will be November 1st afterall. Start the new month with a new you! But how do you get rid of the lingering effects of your sugar "hangover"?
  • Eat small meals every 2-3 hours full of lean proteins, fresh fruits and veggies, and complex carbs. The fiber will help your digestion. These meals will help to regulate your body and get your metabolism back on track.
  • Hydrate! Drink plenty of water throughout your day to help to flush out those toxins.
  • Get your sweat on. Get in a good workout with both weight training and cardio. It will help to make you feel better from the night before.
  • Keep pressing forward. Don't think about past pitfalls. Just look to the future and create a plan to reach your goals.
Happy Halloween!
