First Class and Feeling Sore? Listen Up!

Some of our Brand New Clients Working Hard!

Welcome to February! January was a busy month for us here at Pink Iron and that means that many of you are NEW members! We are so grateful to have all of you ladies here and to be given the opportunity to help you reach your peak fitness level and achieve the goals you have set for yourself for 2012.

For many of you, our training program is the first thing you have done like this, EVER.... So for that reason, today, I would like to address starting out and soreness. The truth is that yes, anything worth doing will not be a breeze. The first time you do a workout at Pink Iron, you will most likely feel soreness in muscles that you may not have even realized you had! That is a good thing, BUT we want to make sure that you are not so sore that you can't walk down stairs or pick up your children.

Our suggestion for every new member is to take it easy for the first week or two. Don't feel like you have to compete to beat the best time on the board. As a new member, our big goal for you initially is to just get you moving and familiarize you with the movements that we do. You will hear your coaches talk about "scaling" the workout... when you hear this, listen up closely because they are talking to you! If you need to do less repetitions or less rounds or modify some of the movements... THAT IS OK!! Fitness is not a sprint, it is a marathon... it is a life commitment. You have time to become better and better... for the first few weeks, let's just focus more on form and getting your body adapted to the intensity at which you will be eventually pushing.

We take the time in every class to warm you up properly and cool you down. We ask that you get to class on time and the main reason is because we care about your safety. Warming up properly will aid in keeping you injury free and cooling down will help relieve some of the tightness and soreness that you experience post workout. One of our favorite tools to use is the foam roller, we encourage all of our members to arrive 10-15 minutes before class AND stay after class and "roll out" ... search for trigger points or tender areas and roll these areas to decrease density and over activity. You will be amazed at how this simple tool will help you to recover from soreness more quickly. If all of this sounds like a foreign language to you right now, then don't fear, we will teach you how to do this is class!

Just make sure that you start out slowly and go at your own pace. Always keep your coaches updated on how you are feeling and we are here to help you from the beginning! Love you ladies! xoxo- Coach Holly
